I'm curious when the blizzard occurred 3 months ago in August? I know Cando has some nasty winter weather, but never seen blizzards in August.

If there was anywhere else to stay in Cando we would have stayed there, unfortunately this is the only option. Don't plan to duck hunt in the fall unless you want to leave your dog in the truck.

All of my stays have been quite pleasant.

非常乾淨..備品齊全!

Please be aware that the Sportsman's Motel is not permanently closed. It is open and operating and has been doing so for 50+ years. Time and time again people staying at this motel leave notes in the room complimenting the owner regarding the crisp, clean sheets, clean, comfortable rooms, Wi-Fi access, cable tv, and how quiet and pleasant their stay was at the motel. Numerous comments have been made about how pleasant and accommodating the owner is and that they are glad there is a motel in Cando, ND open and operating. Obviously, Google does not know what they are talking about in terms of this motel being closed, so you might want to try using a different browser to search for locations, since their information is not accurate.

Not what you'd expect for a "sportsman's" hotel. No dog policy, even if offered to pay extra, makes it extremely difficult to do anything "sporting" out of this hotel during the cold months.

I was coming back from a movie in Devil's Lake a few months ago during the winter. Apparently, a blizzard was coming in around 12:00am-1:00am. That wasn't the case because it blew in around 11:00pm. So I was expecting a safe ride home. I was half way past Church's Ferry heading towards Cando. The roads were so bad that I could barely see the road. I went into the ditch once but made it out. Feeling it wasn't safe to drive home, I pulled over and looked for a place to go for the night. This was the only place I could possibly call. I called and we talked a bit. She asked me where I was coming from and where I was going. I found that a bit odd but told her anyways that I was heading back home to Belcourt and the roads were getting too bad. She said "Okay, I'll be expecting you." When I got there, I was hoping to get a room and just got to sleep. Instead, the owner fricken called the police and they were waiting there for me! They told me that there were a lot of break-ins and she was just scared. I couldn't believe what was happening. I sat outside in the cold for almost 20 minutes. Finally, the cop walked me to the registration building and the owner let me in. When I paid and got the key to the room, the cop and I walked back outside and was shutting the door when I heard her say, "Stupid savage." What type of language is that to a paying customer?? Racist woman... I even let her know ahead of time and she was to be expecting me!! Worst night ever. I would've just stayed in my car if it hadn't been so cold. Never going there again!!

Friendly owner and clean rooms but not worth the money charged. Just overall not accommodating for any sportsman.
